Epic relased a demo for UT3 today. Though Epic always talked about supporting every platform "we wish", the demo is windows only. Could not even install with Cedega.
If you have a minute time, please post here (http://utforums.epicgames.com/showthread.php?t=578648) and request a demo. If we are enough, maybe they'll hear us.
Thanks!

I could be wrong as I haven't played UT in a while but don't they usually release the demos to Windows only and then the final copy gets a Linux version? I could be mistaken but this is what I thought.

No, Ut2004 had a demo..
I'll wait for a bit longer. It's illogical to assume that Epic will devote the same amount of attention to Linux as Windows, considered that most gamers use Windows, and the few who use Linux, dualboot.

hmm strange. with ut2004 i thought id released the demo for all three systems within short time spans of each other...which what might be happening again
but they have had a habit of literally giving the game code to uhh whats his name...icculus i think to port it over to linux....so we might be waiting on him
and im not worried...my vid card cannot support unreal engine 3 anyway (pixel shader version is too low) and im sure the ati linux drivers means that i would get about like half of the performance that i would get in windows with the same video card.
EDIT; they have announced a linux demo

The beta demo is for Windows only. We're working on Mac OS X and Linux native versions but I don't know when the demos for those will be ready. We are not planning to support OpenGL on Windows - just on Mac and Linux.

Just been playing the demo...
It seems even more fast-paced than UT2004, but I think the graphics need to be more scalable. Other than that, I'm having great fun here :)

There is a UT3-Linux Mailing list now, with announcements of the linux builds (and a lot of spam ). ut3-subscribe@icculus.org

From what I can see the hurdle is .NET 3. You can get past the issue of IE by installing IE6 under wine, but there's still the issue with MSI 3.1. For some reason I get an error saying it can't find a volume to extract to. Figure if I can get past that I can at least get UT3 to install to futz with.

yep i see icculus is making the linux port. It might take a while as its literally one man...but that means that is gonna be a quality port.
i would honestly stop trying to get it to run in wine/cedega....as the engine is so new and requires so much power that it will never work and even if it does it will run like crap

I've already seen where UT3 will have a Linux installer. We will just likely be left out of the demo.

This is the homepage of the guy (Ryan Gordon) who makes the Linux ports of UT:
http://icculus.org/
He single handedly ported BF1942 to a Linux server, among other incredible things. I'm sure he will have news of a Linux demo on his site soon...

Yeah, icculus is an amazing guy. He also wrote the Openbox 3 Window manager, which is now handled by a community of devs.

iD != Epic. iD makes Doom/Quake, Unreal is from Epic :) Old school: COmmander Keen is from iD, Jazz Jackrabbit is from Epic.
Anyway.. the Linux dedicated server beta/demo thingy is out. Hope the client follows!
