-msi k8n neo4 platinum (http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=K8N_Neo4_Platinum&class=mb)
(http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=K8N_Neo4_Platinum&class=mb)-200 GB seagate sata hdd (8mb cache)
-asus extreme ax700pro (ati)

I think you're correct. Linux + sil + Seagate may cause problems. To avoid any possible problems, change HD or SATA controller.

dont go with ati
.... horrible attitude towards *nix and the open source community.

Everything that its nvidia should work, the mobo is NF4, so it should work.. but for gods sake.. CHANGE THIS ATI CARD FOR A NVIDIA ONE... its not gonna work, and even if it works.. the performace will suck... i changed my 9800pro for a TI4200, and believe me.. the Ti4200 beats the 9800pro for a very large vantage..

Playing ut2k4 with my ex-9800pro i got 40 fps in large maps.. now i got 90fps in the sample place with a ti42000...

Dont even think about ATI if you are gonna buy hardware to run linux :p

i see.. then i'll buy a wd 200 sata hdd.. i've just read it works fine with many distros...

and i'll consider buying a nvidia chipsetted one if i find one with near price and similar features... (i'd appreciate any help for choosing a vga as well :) )

thank you very much for your advices...

Yeah, don't go with ATI. That nVidia card is great. Change the HD with a Maxtor or IBM one.

hmm.. okay, i think maxtor will be better than wd (and seagate of course).

thank you very much...

For serial ATA, SIS chipsets are best.
