I know you can have a specific window showing the cpu usage and ram usage, but can it be put right to the desktop? I see many kde desktops with it but no gnome ones. I searched google but didnt find anything. Is it just for kde?

This is unlike all my other long indepth questions :P

Like the stuff on the left side of the screen there. But just the top three ones :)

Do a search for gkrellm. It's a pretty cool one and it is available in the repositories.

I love my gdesklets. The problem is that they use many resources to tell you what is used....oh well.

haha. then give conky a shot, it uses *very little* resources to tell you what is used, and so much more... fan status, current mpd song playing, graphs of networking speed, etc. http://conky.sf.net

Its cool. I have a nice computer and it a glorified Web Browser most the time. Its nice to have it doing something.

gdesklets is the most bug ridden POS program i've ever seen. i've tried it three times and each time it's worse. almost nothing works and the stuff that works doesn't work right.

torsmo is the real deal. screenshot (http://www.pitt.edu/~jwn7/screenshot.jpg)

i agree on the gdesklets part, but disagree on the torsmo... torsmo is no longer active. conky is the real deal, fo shizzle.screenshots (http://conky.sf.net/screenshots.html)
