Yep but you can go to https://shipit.ubuntu.com/ and request for free CDs.

But since gutsy isnt available yet, they're calling it "pre ordering".
:)

By the way, I am unable to send you a pm... can you just PM me your email address?

Ang problema ko pag um-order ako ng 10 CDs and above, Post Office charges me PhP40. Noon, I ordered 50+ CDs, wla akong binayad.. I didn't na-ta-tax na pala pati CD.

I agree that downloading and burning to CD-RW is faster than ordering the CD, but I still order them for advocacy purposes.

Those crackers logs in to his PC and uses his Outlook to send out embarrasing emails. Then the next day, the crackers would email my friend with screenshots of porn and personal files they got off my friend's pc. They're practically mocking him and kept on saying "we're going to tell your mom you surf to porn sites!". I gave him a CD, and never turned his back! Now his motto's "try cracking my box now b*tch!"

It's do-able... but we'll need funds. It was discussed in IRC before, but was discouraged since there's no way anyone can fund this. We might be able to if we go commercial.. but then again... permissions and paperworks.

All points well taken. Well maybe we can setup a non profit organization, foundation or something, diba?

Ill try to research on this possibility and see if we can muster something. Anyone think that this is a good idea?

BTW, does the IRC meetings happen regularly?

How Do I Order More CDs?

You can order a second time once your first order was shipped. Since we have limited resources, we would appreciate it if you could think carefully about the quantities you order.

but if someone will take the responsibilities will the team consider this? i do think a some sort of committee can do this... volunteers please... hehehe...

Maybe we can start in small things. For example, we can look for small time conferences or gatherings and maybe get a booth where we can do demos of the capabilities of ubuntu in areas as gaming and / or office productivity. We can then give a free CD to anyone who tries it.

Another example is that, Computer Expos like the ones that happens in Megamall megatrade center we can do the same. or College Job Fairs.

And in all of these activities, we can really market ourselves as -- Hey We are UBUNTU Philippines! We are here to stay!

My point is that a focused group on small things will do a better job marketing UBUNTU than individuals doing their own thing.

So to sum it all up... lets start small... then work our way up.

Thoughts anyone?

Your thread is in the wrong place by the way.

What went wrong with your download?

Did you burn the image at the lowest possible speed? Did it got interrupted during download at any point?

What error messages are you getting?

Pwedeng magsuggest on how to distribute Ubuntu CDs within NCR.

I live sa Boni area lang so I spend my Saturdays sa Robinsons Pioneer kasi libre wifi. And my Sundays sa Robinsons Galleria right after hearing mass kasi libre wifi din. I usually order a lot of CDs from shipit, minsan di nauubos. Since tambay lang naman ako pag weekends sa mall then I might as well distribute Ubuntu CDs there. I'm already working so libre weekends ko. I'm sure there are a few people in a similar situation.

I'm just not sure how to advertise that I'm available during those time, at those places (Galleria and Robinsons Pioneer). Okay din siguro dun magdistribute ng CDs, I can show my laptop, show how a live CD works, and demonstrate several Ubuntu apps.

My ship it status is:

2 CDs requested on 2007-10-09. 2 CDs were approved and sent
to the shipping company on 2007-10-16. Please note requests usually
take from 4 to 6 weeks to deliver, depending on the country of
shipping.

You think this is accurate I mean 4 to 6 weeks? or could it be much later?

Why order? You can download it at www.ubuntu.com.

Like me, I just downloaded it. Let us just, let those newbies order those free Cd's for them, If we want to spread our vision, to use Linux instead of proprietary softwares.

Request for free shipment or Download... whichever is suitable for you. if your internet connection is fast then download is a good idea. for those who can wait or just want to have a pressed copy from canonical then shipit will do.

i just want to share one experience way back the release of Ubuntu 5.0.4 - The Hoary Hedgehog. When I asked for 20 CDs for distribution to my friends in school the Post office in Cubao opened the package thinking it was pirated CDs. hahaha how paranoid right?
