I'm currently burning the latest Xubuntu Gutsy alternate CD to install on my really old computer. It chokes on the live CD.

who needs Compiz with Enlightenment 17?

Enlightenment 17 blows the fad Compiz-Fusion away.

ROFL:lolflag:I historically always preferred the alternate CD's...

I remember the good ole days when Ubuntu shipped 2 CD's.

If I want to spin my cube for kicks I simply restart x(ctrl+alt+backspace) and login to my GNOME, KDE, or XFCE sessions...but that only last about 30 seconds until I am jonesing for Enlightenment!

I had E17 for some time, but it seemed way too flashy, almost pimpish with all that gold and stuff. Also, it was a PITA to configure...

With which theme?

There are so many themes in e17 that is essential what you want it to be, it can be as bling as you desire or as minimalistic as you choose.

Similar to yours, I think.

EDIT : However, why don't you run gnome-settings-daemon ? It seems that you're not getting the full gtk niceness of your programs!

Similar to yours, I think.Thats the default theme, I agree it is bling, in fact I think it's called bling-bling. There are so many more cool themes, I only am using it now because I used so many others the default bling-bling is new to me. I will probably go very minimalistic next.

Yes. I had it looking pretty swish, too, with the fire and snow plugins :P

I also experimented with an animated desktop :P

Do try running gnome-settings-daemon

What I mean is, running gnome-settings-daemon in a terminal should make your gtk applications use your theme's gtk widgets. Did you try it?

I just finished my install. Xubuntu is beautiful! And I thought Dream Linux was fast on this thing. Xubuntu Gutsy just flies. When Gutsy goes final I'm going to set up an Apt On CD since this thing has no internet connection.:guitar:

I tried E17 too, it was OK, but since I am so addicted to GNOME apps, it doesn't integrate well enough for me with the apps in it using etk, and not gtk. Also, I gotta have my window list. ;)

I like GNOME also thats why I have it installed too...I simply restart X and log in to a GNOME session when ever I am Jonesing for GNOME.

E17 is my default session.

Enlightenment 17 blows the fad Compiz-Fusion away.

I'm willing to bet that 4 years from now, the "fad" compiz-fushion (at that point probably with a much longer name because of various forks and resulting reunions--something catchy like "Compiz-Diamond-Beryl-Ruby-Orange-Goat-Fushion") will still be around and installed by default on most systems, and e17 will still be in alpha.

Our good friend RAV TUX will still be raving about it, though. He's cool like that.

I am running normal xubuntu and I am very satisfied. It runs great on my computer and does everything so much faster. It's much prettier than gnome imo.
