After messing around with settings, and having no joy accessing Ubuntu Forums in Kingston Upon Hull in the UK (At work) it seems Hull City Council are unintentionally blocking access on all council network stations. It seems when setting up some new servers, they gave said servers a real-world IP instead of a local intranet one, and guess who's IP they used? Yep! 91.189.94.186 www.ubuntuforums.org

Good eh?

Wow. That's a pretty amazing level of incompetence. I mean, did they hire the Geek Squad to set up their network?

That really was a stupid move on the part of the person who set up that network.

Wow, what an idiot

@p_quarles
I once called Geek Squad to see if they could fix my *buntu, and when they put in their repair disc, no matter what I told them about me using Linux, they could only say to use a "Better version of Windows". At least they are taught JEEP (Just Enough Education to Perform) :lolflag:

That's ridiculous! 256,200 people with no access to these forums!

It's only for people working in the city council; the city's monopoly ISP, Karoo, is presumably OK.

To view the forums, even though they are blocked:

Go to http://www.google.com/translate_t

Under the translate a web page, enter

http://ubuntuforums.orgSelect English to Spanish on the click down menu.

Then click the Translate button

You will then see the forums in Spanish. Up along the top on the URL block in your browser, you should see something like:

http://www.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fubuntuforums.org&langpair=en%7Ces&hl=en&ie=UTF8Then where it says
langpair=en%7Cesswith the en and the es so that that section of the URL reads
langpair=es%7CenAfter switching, and hitting the enter key with the new URL, you should be able to browse through the website normally now.

Ah, that's slightly more acceptable.

Try using http://unblock.it. It is normally used to go on sites without being blocked, but it should work here too.

Try:
http://www.cantgetme.info/
replace the myspace address with ubuntuforums.org (make sure you allow javascript to be run, if you use NoScript). If that doesn't work, then I don't know what to tell you.

well poczta.skomur.pl used 91.189.0.4 which takes over the forums sometimes. Ive even tried OpenDNS! still redirects me to that st00pid polish site.
