kde apps (well, konq, kate and konsole) fly open in xfce. how does that happen? added plus - not stuck with kwin decs. (and no, rav tux didn't just hack my account.)

All the libs must have been pre-loaded. It is usually just the first KDE app to open that is slow. (for me anyway)

gnome and other apps are like:
y = 23x
and kde apps are like:
y = 10x + 40
x being the amount of apps you have open
y being the amount of ram you are using

There is a setting in XFCE that lets it preload some libs for KDE and Gnome so that they open faster.
You can set it on the second tab in the Sessions-settings.

i'd forgotten about this, but i had gnome checked (now that i've checked kde, watch them take forever to load).

It's just xfce for ya. I cant't explain it, others may be lighter but it kicks A55 on my rig ;)
