your install doesn't boot to a GUI?

hi jim

when i start the computer and highlight the ubuntu 6.06 server edition option to boot.
i get this after typing in my username and password:

blaster@ubuntu:~$

and that's it. it does not go to a gui.
thanks in advance

after much searching online and in IRC. I found out that the server edition doesn't come with a GUI by default though you can install one. Is there a particular reason you installed the server edition first?

Jim

well, i installed 6.10 (fiesty fawn) desktop edition first. then i started reading about creating
a small server locally on my computer just to see if i can do it. that's when i downloaded
6.06 server edition and came to a screeching halt. i got dumbfounded. i have fiesty fawn
on one partition and the server edition on another partition on the same hard disk.
i do not know how to start the applications in the command line mode.

Like the man said that's it. There is no GUI on the server software. You can install it, but it's not there by default.
