Ebbeh?

I'd be too scared to burn down the casing. What if a component fails and sparks?

... that said, kudos to those modders. It must have taken ages.

my brother has made a couple, he thought it was a cool idea and although it works perfectly I still think that its a fire risk.

They do look cool tho :)

I've put the parts inside a cardboard box or two. You don't really need a power button if you've gone into BIOS and told it to restart after AC power loss, but a power button is still handy. I'd stripped a couple of broken PC's for useable parts, so it was easy to attach a power button.
All you need is a sharp utility knife, some ty-wraps, electrical tape, duct tape, maybe some shock cord for suspending the HDD so it runs silently.
That and a few cardboard boxes. You want to make sure you're moving enuf air thru the thing, and that you've braced PCI cards securely. Chances are the first one will be lame, but that's OK cause you'll be learning as you go. Grab another box and try again.
I don't remember for sure, but I think I made a shelf of sorts so the motherboard got some air flow underneath.

seriously - cases are dirt cheap. why would you want to do this. you can't tell me it's not a fire hazard.

I actually found a good cardboard PC case idea here:

http://www.yoshi.us/forums/showthread.php?t=4804&highlight=cardboard

now I'm wondering if anyone can give me an idea of how to make the power button. Like how would I get something that would work with the power button header on the motherboard.

THe idea is nice though it is eco friendly when you want to get rid of the case. Just recycle it into your recycling center. But with the heat that mounts with all the electrical components. Can be a fire risk and I do not know if this kind of thing is regulated with standards from the local government. Personally I would rather build my own metal case with proper sections and know that it won't burn down a home.

The main reason I want to build a cardboard pc is because its different and it would stand out. Im not all that concerned with the fire hazard aspect because i wont be running that PC a lot and when i do its going to be under supervision. (fire extinguisher handy) I actually plan to use that PC for when i am trying out new linux distros before i install it on my main desktop.

lol i recently started thginking about building my own case because i really couldnt find anything that i liked in stores so either wanted to build somthing out of plexy glass or plastic for it to be compltly see throught but then i though it might take to long so i started thinking about cardboard but then that fire hazerd i was worried about so i did some google research found this site . well i was thinking about laying the inside of the "case" out with duct tape ( to prevent the fire hazerd)

$200 for a bare cardboard case and a 400watt power supply that sells for $25 US? Somebody is hoping to make some serious money........

If they had of put a nice 80+ power supply inthere I would be less cynical.
