I'm doing a research project on the various search engines that I could plug into my website so that I don't have to code one myself. I've looked at Google's product offering, and Lucene. They seem to be the front-runners, but I'd like to evaluate others. I'm not having much luck by doing a google search for "search engine."

Can you recommend some other search engines, or at least point me to a website that would have this info? Thanks!

A few others are InQuira and Verity, both of which are focused on large business sites although they might have scaled down approaches.

Yeah, they're a bit out of my range. Any other suggestions?

This same question was on slashdot earlier this week. You may find more suggestions in the comments: http://ask.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=07/10/01/1959239
