Linux Format has to be the best linux magazine I have ever seen, but it is sadly expensive, about $15 an issue for a copy here in the USA if I remember rightly. I'd love to get a subscription if I could afford it, but instead I just settle for getting one from the magazine rack every once in a great while, and subscribing to Linux Journal, which is awesomely cheap (around $30 for a year's subscription) and has some pretty nice stuff in it.

Hessiess: I'm in the UK and subscribe to Linux Format and Linux Magazine, both are available in larger newsagents.

No matter how advanced the web is, there's nothing like a magazine.

I subscribe to Linux Format too.. Expensive but very good articles, and full DVDs too. I used to be subscribed to Linux Magazine too, but it was not as engaging as Linux Format.

I also like the way that Linux Format covers some BSD stuff and even Syllable. Also, the tutorials are good, and very readable. Recently they've also took to reviewing hardware, which is also nice imho.

Top!

Out of the list, my favourite is Linux Journal. I was a subscriber to LJ for several years, ans still buy it occasionally.

But better than any on the list, to my mind, is Gnu Linux Magazine France (http://www.gnulinuxmag.com/), published by Diamond Editions.

The text is in French, but I suspect that several of the articles are either translations from other languages (German or English, occasionally Polish) or are written in French by foreigners.

Very wide range of topics: hardware, software, programming, administration, real-world use and case studies...

Beef.

Cool thanks for the input everyone, and thanks for keeping the thread on topic, on Linux (PAPER) magazines.

Why do people continue to buy tech magazines? In the UK, they're mainly around the £5 mark and come with a CD full of stuff you can get for free off the internet. I don't get why anyone would pay a fiver for ye olde news from a month ago when the internet has an abundance of breaking tech news, reviews and more in-depth analysis for free?

Point, but some people just enjoy having hard copies of reading material. Also, the cd's are nice because it's a collection of things that are very easy to try out, without hunting around or downloading. Downloading is certainly an issue when you have a slow internet connection, or none at all.

Linux Format is easily the best. It's the only magazine I have on order now.
