I haven't touched ubuntu (or linux) since shortly before Dapper's release. I remember some of the common short comings back then and curious how things have progressed since then? Besides the areas of improvement, what are the current common problems?

Well, the only big thing for me is that Fiesty has awesome wireless support. As for problem areas, I see none.

Another cool thing Feisty's got is the "Restricted Drivers Manager", which made it way easier to install mi video card drivers. About problems, I can't think of any right now... :guitar:

Ask again, or better yet try it, when Gutsy Gibbon comes out!

October 18th is not too far. :KS It has a lot of great fixes, and nice touches. (Being able to configure my touchpad's behavior without fiddling with xorg.conf to name one...)

The only big changs for linux are in its world geography software.

Also, Gnome 2.20 will be included in Gutsy, which bears new features and bug fixes.

I started in the days of Edgy, and the vast improvements just with Feisty... well lets just say im looking forward to gutsy (and I run KDE!)

Researching right now what distros I want to try, gutsy will be downloaded and tested when it's released.

Currently waiting on a laptop I just bought to arrive.

Give PCLinuxOS a shot, and for some XFCE in the mix, give Zenwalk a shot.

Oh, and RAV TUX is just bored... were not elitists here at Ubuntu.. im sure you knew that from before ;)

Hi Lambert,

First let me say that i'm really glad to see you here again, it's been a long time i've not seen you here ! Ubuntuforums really missed your wireless experience ;)

Unfortunately some problems are still there, especially about wireless cards, some drivers are still a bit tricky to install and some wireless cards which have native linux drivers require ndiswrapper if you want to use the gnome network-manager.
