I know GNU is not Unix, but recently I have come across a game that has really confused me.

What baffles me is that sure its a three letter game, but why did they choose 'GNU'? Can GNU mean other things in a different context? Also, why does their mascot look a lot like the ox mascot associated with GNU/Linux? Am I missing something here?

I'm pretty sure the makers of that game were thinking about the animal called gnu (also known as wildebeest), not the GNU project :D

Ah, I still think the coincidence is humorous.I don't think that it is coincidence, I think that stallman specifically choose the gnu name after the animal. Look at the logo that they have;)

That game looks awesome. I have a small (but growing) collection of crazy board games. Must find this one for my collection!

Does anyone remember this game? (picture below)

If you mean you are looking for Whats GNU then you can get it at Target. It not along the backwall in Toys and Games(most of the board games are there) but instead down one of the aisles.

Gnu is an animal, but it's pronounced like 'New'.

This same pun is used both by the game ("What's Gnu?" pronounced like "What's new?") and the operating system, as Richard Stallman says in his talks. Back then, they used to talk about "The GNU operating system", that sounds like "The new operating system".
