Has work completely stopped on parallels workstation for linux and windows? I was debating purchasing the product but i have the feeling that the project has been abandoned and they only work on the mac version now.

Use Virtualbox. Also a virtualisation software, but is free and even an open source version exists. And it offeres the "no window" mode parallels offers for Mac.

You can find it at www.virtualbox.org

VirtAdmin responded to a post (http://ptn.parallels.com/forum/t,148#p349) on their forums on 9/10/07, two weeks ago. =] You may wish to post in their Linux sub-forum (http://ptn.parallels.com/forum/f,4/) and see what they have to say.

What exactly does that post have to do with it? It talks about a login and pass.

Anyway, I wouldn't put much hope on Parallels. I'm fairly certain they've abandoned Windows/Linux in favour of focusing entirely on the Mac Parallels. I second the Virtual Box recommendation and add that VMware server is available if you are more familiar with it/need it. VMware Workstation is also available for Linux if you need the high end.

I had high hopes for their integration mode. I saw it on a mac a couple weeks ago and came away very impressed. I run VMWARE at work and I don't think that it would be much use for me at home. and it cost 4 times as much for it as opposed to parallels. There are just a couple programs from windows that I would like to run on Ubuntu. and plus i am using an old Dell inspiron 1100 laptop, i don't think i have the resources on the laptop to run vmware effectively.

They're still supporting Linux related questions, perhaps this could be taken as a sign of the Linux Parallels project is still in the works??

That said I also would recommend Virtualbox, I use itfor my Windows needs. Innotek have really made progress w/ V-Box and it is very promising as far as virtualization goes.

Yeah i have been on their forums but it seems like the linux version is just an afterthought. maybe someone can convince them to open the project so the community can maintain it. I am going to try virtual box now and see how it goes. and notwen you have the best signature ever.

Aye, the links come in very handy, still use them myself from time to time. I've seen a better one, something along the lines of "Linux is like a child, it's fun to have, but a lot more fun to make." I figured my current one is a bit more all-age forum friendly. =]

This works great, it took me about 2 hours to install windows XP. I have got USB devices to get detected they are just not working right. The only reason i was to use this is so i can use Verizon VZ access to get internet through my blackberry. The blackberry is detected and installed in windows, VZ access says that it can't find it though.

Hopefully this won't take me long to figure out.
