I believe that there is prior art for spring loaded folders, so technically the patent apple has is null and void.

Here is a definition of spring loaded folders:
You grab a file and drag it over a
folder. After a delay, that folder opens, and you can hold the mouse
(still "holding" the object being dragged/dropped) the next folder, etc.
This allows a user to navigate through a folder heirarchy without having
to open a separate window, navigate through the directory structure to
the destination folder, and then drag/drop to that window.

Basically, when you click on the applications, places or systems menu (or start in windows) , when you scroll down the listing, a subfolder automatically appears allowing you to navigate through the directory structure by "pausing briefly over a folder and waiting for its subcontents to open" . Now technically , isn't that the same as a spring loaded folder? having it open by pausing over it, except the difference is that your just navigating the menu, whereas your actually holding down the button (and draggin a file) ?

So are there any lawyers in here voice an opinion on the issue?

So maybe we can have spring loaded folders by , instead of dragging the file and holding it over a folder, and have it open into a new folder... it can do a submenu, andlist the directories inside that folder, and then we can navigate like menus while holding down a file?
