Not that I am promoting using proprietary video drivers, but which one do you use? I am conducting research for KernelCheck (http://kcheck.sourceforge.net/), and I am willing to add a feature to automatically install video drivers. So, please answer the poll, and answer the polls below, respectively. Thank you!

For ATi users: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=566507
For nVidia users: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=566532

Ive got an integrated intel card, so I don't have all the propriatary issues with my video card :guitar:

I too chose intel integrated specifically so that I would not have to mess with proprietary drivers.

There is missing option up there: "two or more".

I answered "FGLRX/ATI" just because I am posting from my laptop with ATI card, however my main desktop has an NVIDIA card with its proprietary drivers. My other machines have Trident and SiS cards, but I have not found Linux drivers for them.

EDIT: More specifically, my laptop has an onboard ATI Radeon Xpress 1100 with up to 256MB (shared, but I actually preserve it at its stock 128MB, the other 128MB came after a BIOS update); my main desktop has a NVIDIA GeForce FX5200 with 128MB; my second desktop has a SiS card with 64MB (AGP), and the smallest one has an onboard Trident CyberBlade with a whooping 8MB (shared).

Joe.

Wish I had thought of that before I submitted the poll, I can't edit it after it's submitted. I guess if you have 2 or more put other.

nVidia 6800 GT on this old machine

Been a long time nVidia user, now feeling frustrated at them. If things stay as they are, next machines ATI. Never figured on saying that.

nVidia 7600 GT, with the newest drivers from the official repo (1.0.9631).

And on our other computer, nVidia 8600 GT, with open source drivers, since the latest binary from nVidia refuses to work. :(

XFX GeForce FX 5200 256MB
MSI GeForce NX7600GS 256MB

I know a lot of people seem to be ready to jump on the ATI bandwagon, now that they have gone open source, but I really wonder, why would you? Sure Nvidia is still closed source, but they have a proven strong track record when it comes to their Linux drivers, while we have not seen a single decent release of the ATI drivers (yet). Maybe after the OSS community has had a chance to do something with ATI's source code and specs and they start releasing decent, easy to use/install drivers, I might consider switching, but until that happens, has ATI really given anyone a good reason to switch to their products? What if the drivers turn out to be less than great, like the Intel drivers?

All of my systems use ATi, and my second choice is Intel graphics

If Intel sold stand-alone graphics cards, I would go with them over ATi.

I would find it kinda pointless to spend extra bucks 'changing' the graphics card, just to get some fancy 3D effects. Enhancing performance by adding an external card to replace the onboard one (when possible) makes sense to me, and I use to make a bit of research before purchasing it so I don't end an unsatisfied user. I guess I do this because I can not afford to be just changing stuff to make a 'switch'.

Joe.

joe.turion64x2 correct on the performance thing - the intel one works great but it sucks CPU power and uses the onboard memory - well fx5200 seems to take up some to but it might use that up after it uses all 128mb and mine was made by Zotac - cheap.. :P oh and the intel one sucks on some things such as reflection..LMAO

Why is there an option for intel graphics? I thought that intel released open drivars for the graphics devices. Is this not true for some of their graphics devices?
