I just read an article on spiegel.de (The news page of one of Germanys most respected news magazines) that stated that at the Intel Developer Forum, all the prototypes for so called "Mobile Internet Devices" ran a special version of Ubuntu. I guess it is the new embedded version that is currently developed within the Gutsy release.

I think that is great news. So for whoever is capable of speaking german, I would recommend to read this article:

http://www.spiegel.de/netzwelt/tech/0,1518,506853,00.html

Also there were some pictures of the prototypes included on which you can more or less see how the Ubuntu embedded looks like ("weiter" means next picture, "zurück" means go back a picture):

I saw the same thing in English, although I can't remember where.

It makes sense, especially as a development platform. Sure, WinCE will get ported onto the final products, but it's easier to develop w/ open source.

It pays to be a development platform.

Good to see this, this is where the future growth for Ubuntu will be.

Thanks for the link!

Actually, they are supposed to run Vista and not CE. (like UMPCs do)

But looking at how "successful" UMPCs are, I can totally understand why Intel switched to a different OS :lolflag:
