Well, to answer your question...

Since the reason I'm trying to steer away from Windows is because it's not free and contains questionable source, then yes, I would probably stick to it if Microsoft had a change of heart.

Now, if Microsoft maintained their own distribution and charged for it, I wouldn't be surprised. But naturally I would expect a variety of distributions to pop up that combine all the best features of XP and Vista. And XP and Linux. And XP and OS-X.

But, enough dreaming.
