At present I still use windows for about 2 things I cant do in ubuntu and hope to reduce that number.

1. An accounting package at work:
The norm under windows is you map a network drive to the data file stored on another machine and open the program with something like:

c:\path\program.exe x:\data.fil Its a multi user program that can have many users at once useing the same data file.
For some years we lost the install cd and I found it was possable under win9x to just copy the working directory from another machine :) to reinstall after windows died as it always eventualy does :( so I asume that means it may not use the registory. We found the CD again if it helps.

What do you think my chances are with WINE given the networking or do I try an alternative to WINE?

2 An M$ access based progam that requires the CD in the drive under windows (some copy protection I think).

Cheers:)

Wine will always be a hit or miss, sometimes you can get something working by using a no-cd patch, sometimes it works with no extra effort, sometimes it won't work no matter what.

More often than not it will work but have problems that anger you, programs like MS Office tend to work better than other kinds of software, because Crossover makes their money supporting that.

With games, Cedega is still your best bet.
