Hey there. As the name suggests, I'm thinking of moving out of where I live and into a new one. The main reason is temperature, I'd like to live in a place with an average lower than 28* Celsius. It's hell walking from a comfortably Air conditioned room to a 34* outside.

I'd rather be somewhere cold because;

It's great for keeping computers/servers
I want a pet octopus and they need cold temperatures
I like the cold better than the heat where I live

But still, the area must have the nerdy essentials;

Reasonable internet speed (>1 MB/s)
Power (yes, some places don't have power)
Somewhere a poor 19 year old can live
Somewhere a poor 19 year old can score a job
Decent pubs

So yea, I live in North Queensland, Australia right now and would like to move somewhere in the country (all I have to do is drive). If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, please post.:confused:

Adelaide is nice, summer can be kind of harsh though, 37+, but average fits your bill I guess (the hills can be a bit cooler in the evenings as can Glenelg and other spots along the beach)...

Maybe Melbourne, Adelaide is more of a big town than a city IMHO, unlike Sydney (or even Melbourne). Also we have ADSL2+ in most places, slowest connection I have had is 8mbit in the last 2 years or so.

Best climate I have ever known is Port lincoln, but it is no place for a 'geek' internet is terrible, and tech toys come with a crazy premium because it is a smallish place.

Hmmm... Had a look at those charts and it looks like my only choices in Australia are east Victoria and south NSW. New Zealand was my second choice, they have cool snowy mountains :)

Anyone here from New Zealand? Got any pointers?
