Hi.

My idea to this thread is pretty simple. I would like that you post here some screen shots (or links to them) of your e17 desktop environment. If you want to, I would appreciate that you do some description (a short one) of How you did it.

Thank you. :)

Hi, I have uploaded a couple of screenshots of my e17 setup.

http://ubuntuforums.org/g/images/19792/large/1_Smoke.jpg

This is a theme called Smokey and I use Smooth-Etiquette to theme those GTK applications I use. I use 3 shelves in this one (the 3 bars at the bottom)

http://ubuntuforums.org/g/images/19792/large/1_MacWhite.jpg

This one is called Milky and once again I use a GTK engine and it's name MurrinaWhite, now I use 4 shelves one is transparent (for the clock)

http://ubuntuforums.org/g/images/19792/large/1_Japan1.jpg

This lovely theme is Japan2007 and with this one I use Smooth-Japan for those nasty =) GTK applications. There are unfortunately a shortage of stable applications based on Enlightenment17s EFL =(.

All these themes can be found at get-e.org (http://get-e.org) and all of the GTK themes I found over at gnome-look (http://gnome-look.org).

I forgot to post the on I'm using now =).

http://ubuntuforums.org/g/images/19792/large/1_detour.jpg

This is the Detour theme which you won't find on get-e.org, I have no suiting GTK theme for this theme. The GTK theme called Detour on gnome-look.org is just awful, so I use a slightly modified GT4 White, but you can't see that one, just the ETK themes windows.

Btw, if anyone sees this and decides to make a nice GTK theme for this ETK theme, you would make me a very happy boy =).

Hey how do you take a screen shot of E17?

Enable the Screenshot module and then add it to a shelf. Also, my E17 (note, this is the Fireball theme, but I am creating a new theme which is not present).

I'm using the e16 atm... from repos :) with default SSes so no worries I won't post them ;)

One thing though: anyone got tips to customise e16? I hate the left click menu, too much clutter.

What are the benifits of enlightenment over the standard gnome?

What are the benifits of enlightenment over the standard gnome?

Advantages:
* It looks better
* It has animations for all sorts of things
* It is lighter and uses less resources
* It is easier to make themes for

Disadvantages:
* It doesn't have a system tray :(
* It can't use Compiz [1]
* It has to run either GNOME Settings Daemon or XFCE Settings in order to get some preferences to work (like GTK themes)

Overall, I prefer E17 over GNOME, and it is the first thing I install when I do a fresh install of Ubuntu.

[1] There is a plugin for E17 called ecomorph which is being worked on and already gives you a few of compiz's affects, but it isn't very many.

Ehh no, you just setup your gtk themes and icons with a conf file inside your home folder, a somewhat easier way is to use either 'gtk-theme-switch' or 'gtk-chtheme' to set or change your gtk theme.

I prefer GUI, so that is why I said it needs GNOME's or XFCE's settings daemons.

Ha ha, I haven't seen or used Enlightenment since my SuSE 7.x days like 8 years back. Cool.

Well no, you'll get a GUI with both 'gtk-chtheme' and 'gtk-theme-switch'. I prefer 'gtk-chtheme' but you'll need 'gtk-theme-switch' to change gtk1 themes.
