AMD X2 range you mean? I am a systembuilder and have had no problems whatsoever installing ubuntu. It sees the dual core processor and does loadsharing etc.
So no probs!!

AAAAAHHH SWEEEEEET
Was planning on purchasing a new pc and was up in arms about which way to go, guess that has been sorted, thanks very much for the response. I take it , you using a ASUS mother board ? would there be any specific one that you would recommend ?
Was think of something like this:
Amd socket AM2 Dual core opteron 1212 , support core-to-core , with 3 hypertransport link ( 24GB/S ) , 2000mhz - 2x 128k L1 + 2x 1mb L2 ; 2000mhz fsb hypertransport - box cpu
Asus M2NPV-VM , all-in-one ; socket AM2 , nVidia geforce6150 + nforce 430 chipset , 4x dual channel DDR2-800 , 4 x s-ata2 with raid 0/1/0+1/5 , 2 x parallel ata133 , on-board vga with dual-output ( DVi-D or D-SUB ) with TV-out ( RCA+S-Video+1080i HDTV ) , iEEE1394a firewire , AD1986A 5.1 audio + gigabit lan ; 1x pci-e (1x) , 1x pci-e (16x) , 2 x pci - micro atx

You're welcome... Yes i use ASUS M2N1394 motherboards mainly, just because I know they will work beautifully... But is also know that support has gotten much better for higher chipsets... so i guess you could use any chipset but the highest......

Thanks so much , guess it is time to fork out the cash and get my DSL Ubuntu web server up and running ....finally \\:D/
I must just add... that coming over from windows i was a bit worried as to how long it would take to get the hang of Ubuntu, turns out that it takes no time at all, i take my hat off to all who were the creators.

Oh, you're building a server... i would check out which chipset is most suited for that, i guess it won't be necessary the newest...
good luck!

well not so much a server in terms of hardware, more like a desktop box with a bit of juice on the side....
I currently have Ubuntu Server install on a 2.8 Intel - Gig ram and have ddns set-up to point to my home router and then port forward to that pc ,and have put up a page, which is not to bad with regards to speed, but then got to big for my boots and managed to mess it up and had to reload Ubuntu server... So you could say i am still in the testing stages of hosting my own website.....
So if all goes well .... i should be hosting maybe 3 of 4 sites at a later date...
Maybe a postfix mail server as well ...
