Heres the problem:

$ host distrowatch.com
distrowatch.com has address 10.0.1.128

10.0.0.0/8 is a non-routable IP range.

DDoS attack hum. I had an employee get fired the other day. While in the bathroom, he wadded up a volleyball ball size of paper, got it soaking wet, and tossed it over a stall wall, hitting a guy just in there to take a crap. Got him pretty wet.

Attack by DDoS or by wet paper ball? Anyway thanks for the dw mirrows.

Who needs conspiracy theorists? The site owner has stated numerous times he puts little faith in the numbers. Link. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DistroWatch#Accuracy)

As for Distrowatch and Automatix being down at the same time, what's the bloody fuss? They don't represent the end all apocalypse of the Linux world, neither site is that important.

I don't know what happened to openSuSE download page, an unrelated server error? Surely they couldn't be DDoSed too...

But anyway, if Ubuntu goes down, you will know that it's the end of the Linux world. :)

Not so much a competitor but another option in the world, especially great for new distros, Distropedia has NO waiting list.

DW has been around for many years, Distropedia is perhaps months old, but we offer no ads, no waiting period & no notability requirements. Also Distropedia is what you make it.

Join up and add all the features you want. ;)

DistroWatch will be back shortly

DistroWatch.com was hit by a crippling Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack over the weekend. It is currently being restored and should be operational later today (Monday). Sorry for the inconvenience. In the meantime please visit one of the following mirrors:

USA: http://distrowatch.serve-you.net/
Czech Republic: http://distrowatch.cz/
Austria: http://distrowatch.gds.tuwien.ac.at/
Romania: http://dw.rohost.com/
Ukraine: http://distrowatch.lafox.net/

I think Darl McBride must have broken into the BlueGene/L compound and started pinging everything related to Linux.

I've noticed some random slowdowns here as well. If it's a DDOS, it's not a very effective one, but it still seems odd, all these Linux sites.

matthew

I think it was Chuck Norris.No. Chuck Norris doesn't have to try to DDos sites, sites try to DDos Chuck Norris. If Chuck Norris wants a web site down, he just gives it a roundhouse kick.

Not stupid. It's business. Many of these bot nets hire themselves out. The storm (it's called that right? I mean the latest one...) bot net has been reported to be on the side of millions of infected zombies that can be throttled and controlled extremely finitely. The owners then get people to pay them to take down sites or do other things with their nets. Why just infect someone's computer when you can make money from it?
