I think I won't bother with an iPhone - I can't be bothered buying the extra bit that sits between the phone and the SIM card to fool the phone into thinking that it's connecting to AT&T when it's really connecting to our local GSM provider.......

Actually, they unlocked it. And you can run homebrew on it and a lot more apps, but you need windows sadly. . . . and you can skip activation with out itunes.

Apparently some of the folks here in NZ don't know that..... It isn't showing yet but a link on http://3news.co.nz might pop up later.

Don't go there go here: apple.qj.net, updated 24/7 all of the blogs are ;).
The qj.net blogs are the best. Better than anything I have ever seen and there are tons of them.

No need to open it up, just run the software and go.
