Well I'm a totaly new to perl. I already learned PHP and Jave but a friend of me suggested that I tried perl and after reading up on it, I got very curieus about it. Is anyone here able to suggest me some exellent startermaterial to get a good go at perl? And which editor you guys think is the best for making perl things in ubuntu?

Thanks alot in advance, browsing around the ubuntu forums has helped me solve a lot of my problems already \\:D/

gedit (the default text editor in GNOME) works for me. It'll recognize the file as a perl script (and do syntax highlighting) either by a .pl extension or the #!/usr/bin/perl line at the top.

I personally like the O'Reilly books because they are narrarated, not just a straight dump of technical mumbo jumbo.
