I just got a NEW stable word processor from Microsoft!

It is called Microsoft Word and is for DOS, one of the original versions. I new about it, but always wondered how it handled, and now I know.

I am running it in DOSBox on XP because I am at school, and I have DOSBox on my flash drive.

It takes a long time to setup, but works.

Ok, so it isn't "new", but it is new to me.

it aint worth it if you cant import clip art into it...lol

you should try to get windows 3.1 to run on freeDOS

I did. win3.1 runs OK, not perfect, but OK.

Before Linux had a decent word processor that was free I used to run Word Perfect 5.1 in Dos Emulator and it ran perfect.

Still one of the best word processors of all time.

Anyone have links to any of these old MS word programs? (If it's illegal don't link them, but I doubt they'll enforce anything for DOS)

Or at least the versions and what they run on (will they run on DOS emulator for Linux or do you need it on Windows, I doubt it makes a difference)

Baah.
You need XyWrite. The DOS based version could be slimed down to load in 180k! Stored its files as plain text with XML type formatting commands. It was the fastest thing on the market in the late 80's and early 90's. Good enough for the Boston Globe.
