I was just wondering how many people use a 32bit OS as opposed to a 64bit one and decided to find out.

Could you also post the OS you use as either a 32 or 64 bit?

Both, but they would both be 64 bit if this thing could do 64 bit.

Both, in fact:

Debian Etch 64 bits is my main OS. I had Feisty Fawn till last week, now I'm running Slackware 12.0 32 bits.

And Windows XP, too (32 bits)

Sorry I forgot to post my own OSes. They are Ubuntu 7.04 and XP, both 32 bit though I'm considering installing a 64bit Ubuntu 7.04 as well.

32-bit on this laptop. I'm still not convinced of the advantages of running a 64-bit OS.

I would have put 64-bit on the laptop, but I didn't have the CD at the time, and now I don't want to install it. I would have put 64-bit on the main desktop but it doesn't support it.

I use 32bit, but that's only because I don't have a 64bit CPU.

Well,in linux distros I've used I always found apps or drivers or codecs not compatible with 64bit os so I just gave up.Anyway I haven't noticed any significant speedup between XP 32bit and 64bit..

64-bit on my desktop and 32 on my lappy. 64-bit works better. i t handles my 8GB of memory(i'll never need to upgrade that :P) and better utilises the processor when doing heavy simulations and movie editing.

i chose 32bit, my desktop does suport 64bit, and i installed it but that was when i was new to linux, and i had trouble installing some software so i went back to 32bit which is now configured how i like it, if there was a way to change to 64 bit with out deleting all my settings/programs i would consider upgrading

My desktop's 64bit(old EM64T technology), but my laptop, which is Centrino Duo T2050 isn't 64bit, why is the older desktop processor having 64bit whereas the newer laptop processor doesn't support 64bit?

Gutsy 32-bit, :) i suppose 32-bit is going to beat out 64-bit since 64-bit hasn't really hit mainstream yet...

do you have a seperate home directory? even if you don't, back up your home directory, mak a lis of all the software you need to reinstall, install over the 32-bit installation and then resore your home directory from backup. you should have all your settings restored and be bathing in 64-bits of glory.
