Juan Dela Cruz takes computing very seriously. He wants to be as productive as he can in front of his computer. He does not care for Open Source Philosophies, vendor lockup, monopolies, and all those things concerning the industry. All he wants is to have a great computer that would fit all his needs regardless of principles.

He can buy any hardware he wants. He has access to the latest and greatest machines and he has the power to purchase them.

He needs to have a PDA phone, music player, media center PC, and all those other gadgets. Those gadgets should also integrate with each other. He should be able to sync anything he needs to sync. He takes computing very seriously that he is willing to spend much time and effort optimizing his machines in order for them to help him be as productive as he can. On the other hand, even if he is willing to spend some time and effort he has many obligations so he cannot afford to spend all his days hacking.

If this guy just wants to have the best software and hardware regardless of principles, is capable of purchasing any computer available in the market, and all that; what is the best set of software and hardware for him?

I hate hypotheticals...

The situation is too vague for a serious answer anyway. I mean hey if you got thousands just lying around you can buy a whole slew of Apple products and be locked in to them for a lifetime though very functional in their own right. You can equally buy a slew of third party/MS products for Windows and have it all working and be just as well off. If you had the right set of hardware you could equally get a whole slew of open/Linux products to do it.

Without getting more specific this post is pointless and you'll just have people giving you personal preference...
