View Full Version : Mono/Gnome Coding Help

Hello, I'm quite new in Linux ( as I started using it 1 month ago ).
Lately I installed MonoDevelop and bought a book called "Mono: A developer's notebook". I have to say that the book is quite interesting but is quite old as its example codes are made for GTK#... when in the actual version of MonoDevelop you are asked to start a project for GTK#2 instead of the old version... so the examples doesn't work quite well ( even I managed to discover some conversions from GTK# to GTK#2 ).
Can somebody tell me a book for actual coding in GTK#2 or Mono ( actual version ) or some websites, code examples, PDF files or whatever related to coding for GTK#2, Gnome and Mono??
Thank you so much!

Feel free on sending me a line ; )

I am a hardcore monodeveloper. But unfortunately I only do Web Apps with ASP.NET. AFAIK developer's handbook is a little outdated and there is no other book on mono.

However, there are bunch of tutorials on mono's web site.

I hope it helps

hey, thanks for your quick reply!
I hope I can find some nice examples to get started on that link. Until now, everything I had find was in GTK# instead of GTK#2, so they were quite useless, as the way of designing interfaces is totally different. Anyway, lets try to code something nice (^-^)
Best regards,

I dabbled with mono back in the days and remember to have followed a tutorial on the thing. It seems to be offline now but i found this link: http://web.archive.org/web/20041012022844/primates.ximian.com/~edasque/projects/Tutorial/glade2.html

or see my own archived blog posts at:

there are some mono posts in there

you can also have a look at the source i transferred to another dev for the gtkranker tool at
(that is nothing really, i experimented, transferred the code to someone else, never got somewere, but you can see how I used gtk in mono)
