Anybody know of a program like Checkgmail that will sit on the gnome bar and tell me when a new reader item is available? I'm so impatient...

The new svn version from specto (http://specto.sf.net) has a watch that can see if you have new Google Reader items!

a minor downside from this app is that it doesn't show what news items (or from who you received a mail, ...) but be patient...i am busy implementing this as we speak :)
