Thanks for pointing that out! It's always interesting to see what distros are "in style" at a certain time. It shows how long Mandrake held the top until Ubuntu took over. ;-)

On a side note, I still think Ubuntu should include Mandriva's Control Center. I believe it is open-sourced.

So Ubuntu was at one time a little heard of distro.

It wasn't even released yet.

The good old days..my first exposure to Ubuntu was a sordid article in LXF about pornographic wallpapers :P

Distrowatch has an interesting feature this week:
http://distrowatch.com/weekly.php?issue=20070827#feature

No matter which indicator we take for the most representative, one thing is clear - Ubuntu is the top desktop Linux distribution at the moment.

Granted, the DistroWatch Page Hit Ranking doesn't mean all that much and we have been saying this for years.
Compare this...
http://distrowatch.com/stats.php?section=popularity
with this...
http://www.google.com/trends?q=Ubuntu%2C+PC+Linux%2C+PC+Linux+OS%2C+PCLi nuxOS%2C+PCLOS
...and it makes you wonder why Distrowatch continues to publish Page Hit Rankings when even Ladislav Bodnar accepts that they are meaningless!

The PCLOS forum isn't exploding with growth either. In fact, if you look at the bottom:

Most Online Today: 83. Most Online Ever: 511 (June 30, 2007, 01:47:52 PM)
That's really small compared to Ubuntu Forums:

Currently Active Users: 4796 (634 members and 4162 guests)
Most users ever online was 9,500, May 5th, 2007 at 12:45 PM
As you see, we have about 7x the people online at once. I'm sure the PCLOS guys inflate the distrowatch score big time.

Distrowatch's comments section is basically a new set of fan boys each week bashing anyone who doesn't agree with them!
