One type of question that I seem to see often is of Installation help. There is even a sub thread (http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=56) devoted to it. However, there doesn't seem to be a general HOWTO with maybe a set of intial steps/tips for installing on a fresh hardrive versus a drive with another OS; and maybe even have some screen shots of what the installer looks like. I was wondering if something like this exists, and if it does it should definitly be made more visible, and if it doesn't is anyone working on something like this?

I'm not suggesting that a howto can cover all problems, but if there was a list of installation "waypoints" written down formally, then a user can say something along the lines of "At step x I had this problem" instead of:

Installation Help
Moving to a new system
Installation Help
Kernel Panic - not syncing: machine check

This is just a small sampling of subject lines from that Installation Help thread.

Just a thought.

Thanks DJ_Max, that's exactly what I was talking about. Maybe one of the mods can put a sticky post to that url at the top of the installation help sub thread, asking people to look at that page and search older posts before asking a new question.

No problem. If you were part of the Documentation team, or subscribed to the mailing list, you could contribute ideas. As we're working on the wiki, and docs for the Breezy release.
