I installed Kubuntu Feisty on my laptop.:lolflag:
It was time for a change and I finally found a workaround for my freezing problem so now I have left Dapper for Feisty and KDE. I'm really liking KDE. So much more configuration options than Gnome. But there are a few things that bug me. That's not to say that nothing in Gnome bugged me either. They both have their strengths and weaknesses. I really can't say that one is better than the other. I'm just really loving KDE:lol:
But Gnome will still have it's place on my Desktop PC.:)

Me too, and once KDE4 rolls around I'll finally be able to say for certain that KDE is much better than GNOME in every way (well except a lot more buggy at first)

I just knew somewhere in there the word Windows would have come up. Whewwwww! ;)

Hey try out Dolphin (http://enzosworld.gmxhome.de/), the file manager to replace Konqueror as the default browser for KDE4. Nice, clean and simple. It's in the Feisty repos.

Sweet! I was wondering about Dolphin. I wanted something a little more simpler than Konqueror. I will definitely give it a try.:)

No, it didn't, he sadi Kubuntu, which is Ubuntu, but with the DE that Linus Torvalds uses. So if he cna use it without people saying "OMG ITS A CHEEP RIPOF OF WINBLOWS" then I don't see why the rest of us can

The Dolphin in the Feisty repos is not the same one that will be in KDE4. It's rather incomplete, in my opinion. It got serious code revisions and additions for KDE4, and to see the improvements you'd really have to build KDE4 from SVN. Until KDE4 rolls around, I don't think dolphin can really hold up to konqueror. Congratulations, though, on rediscovering KDE.

Yeah, capitalizing the K in darK kinda gave it away.

Nothing wrong with using KDE. It was my favourite before Xfce and if my computer could handle it I'd install it and use it right now. Some of my favourite distros (Mandrake, Mepis) use KDE.

I know exactly what he said. Should of said too, that I was relieved of it not being Windows! Gawd.

Not EVERY way, KDE still won't be as customizable as GNOME (try making the WHOLE DE look like Mac, not just have the File, etc bar separate from the window).

Thanks. I've also heard that about the Dolphin version in Feisty. Perhaps I should just wait.
I've tried KDE many times before, but it just never seemed to work right. But now in Feisty, it just works:D
It's even got my Play/Pause, FF, and RW, buttons on the keyboard detected!

How much you can make a DE look like OS X does not determine how customizable it is as a whole. There are a lot of other options in KDE that aren't available in GNOME... or so I've heard.

KDE, for me, was like a breath of fresh air after GNOME. GNOME is all right, but KDE gave me the freedom and tools to do whatever I wanted.

Welcome to the darK side, indeed.

KDE is for people who want everything in a GUI, which is fine.

GNOME offers more flexibility for me by allowing me to edit the source of any part of the OS I want without being *too* difficult (I tried making a theme on there once, didn't go so well).

most people are going to the light side because gnome is a more popular desktop than kde ;).

It's developed at a much slower rate so I'd think at least in terms of developers KDE is more popular.

When I got the email of a new post, you didn't specify gnome as being the light side... I thought you were talking about xfce as a truly light side. ;)

I don't see how KDE is the dark side, it's far more customizable than GNOME. Not only that but KDE devs actually listen to their user base unlike GNOME.

Hey! They do as a matter of fact listen to their users it's just that they only listen to the crazy users who are devs.

KDE, more customizable than GNOME?

KDE's goal is to cover everything with a GUI.
GNOME's is to be very customizable, but NOT have every tool be under a GUI.

If you have the space, you can install kde-desktop so you can log-in to a kde session to compare. I did that and found that I like the panel applet in Gnome, but the KDE applications work better for me,

There's a project called d3lphin that has a much improved version of dolphin (both bug-fixes and some of the newer features that are KDE4 only in the mainline) for those users wishing to stick with KDE 3.5. Dunno if it's packaged for Ubuntu tho.

It's available for Feisty (https://marrat.homelinux.org/D3lphin?action=AttachFile&do=get&target=d3lphin_0.9.2-1_i386.deb), and it's included in Gutsy.
