Personally, I don't think that the above will actually happen and that it's far-fetched at best.

There is already a thread about that article:

And yeah, it's far fetched daydreams, that a company getting 3k software patents per year would do something like that.

Funny-- And, I agree, far-fetched at best.

I love the part of the editorial up-front where the author compares Firefox to Explorer and attributes to Microsoft an "embrace and extend" approach to standards (even calls it a "mantra"), adding that Microsoft's Explorer browser not only supports internet standards, but adds a few "extras."

OK, Mr. Thompson, so where is the support for the latest xhtml and css 2.0? Compared Explorer's "embrace" of standards to the actual standards at w3c lately?

Even better, though, is how the author not only makes up a hybrid OS as well as a fictitious name for it ("Micrix"), but goes further, right away, to make sure the reader knows how to pronounce this fictitious OS correctly. LOL!!!

Not even Debian (a REAL os) makes much of a fuss on correct pronunciation.

I get the feeling this author just kinda loves to hear himself talk...

That's one way to put it.
