(The Rav Tux type thread smiley is compulsory - so is the alliteration)

The title says it all: each and every country with winemaking tradition believes their wines are the best.

I'm not that patriotic, but I'll surely say there are a few very good Portuguese wines out there. My favourite region in Portugal is the Alentejo and its red wines: ripe (red) fruit, sometimes somewhat stocky and complex wines, perhaps acidic and with a touch of adstringency (which I quite enjoy) and good length, but mostly well balanced wines when they're well done.

The region's potential is enormous, and I have this ambition of one day being able to make my own wine, in a nearby region which is similar in terms of climate and soil, as I have some land to plant my own vineyard.

A few suggestions, from various regions, red wines which are not stupidly overpriced yet are way above average: Dom Rafael, 2005 (Alentejo - Herdade do Mouchão); Duas Quintas (from the Douro region); Quinta da Leda (especially 2001, also from the Douro); Herdade do Peso - Alfrocheiro (Alentejo); Convento da Tomina (Alentejo); Quinta de Pancas (an exquisite Cabernet Sauvignon from the Estremadura region).

These are just a few suggestions off the top of my head, for very reasonably priced wines, yet brilliant wines altogether!

Now I want YOUR suggestions, from your country :D

I would not know where to start as we have such a wide local selection and there are a lot of good ones. My current wine of choice is Spier Chenin Blanc (http://www.winecorp.co.za/spier/wines/detail.jsp?tier_id=2169&wine_id=3738). It tastes really great and only cost about 2.50euro per bottle.
Another favourite is Haute Cabriere Chardonnay Pinot Noir (http://www.wine.co.za/Directory/Wine.aspx?WINEID=13488&PRODUCERID=1060)
A red I like is Durbanville Hills Pinotage (http://www.wine.co.za/Directory/Wine.aspx?WINEID=14813&PRODUCERID=1894), great drinking red wine, Pinotage (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinotage)is a local cultivar not found outside of SA as far as I know.

I'm not a whine snob so I drink what my palette likes. I've tried a good few of the so called 'great' wines but do not like them all, some are downright horrible to me.

Wine is a personal thing to me and not about the label or the price.

Loads of wines here in Switzerland. To start with, I'll suggest you check out some of the wines from 1 region: the state (canton) of VALAIS (http://www.provins.ch/en/vins/gammes)
