It's a good desk, got it in June this year to replace my ageing small desk that I've had since I was about 11 years old - that would have made it 16 years old!

Here's a picture taken from my friend's Blackjack phone of my workspace at my office. The Sony PCG-TR3A laptop on the left is mine (Feisty), and the dual monitors are an IBM Thinkpad T43 (Windows XP Pro) and an IBM desktop (Feisty). It's nice being able to install whatever OS we want at work, as long as we get our work done.

Because I like computers. Some are old clunkers that I saved from the junk and fixed up. Some are past favorites, replaced by faster machines. One is a Windows XP - only machine. The rest are almost all multi-boots with 2 or 3 linux distros each.

And yes, I can and do use more than one at a time. Any desk with more than one box has a KVM so I can switch boxes with a couple keypresses.

What you aren't seeing is the dozens of microcontrollers (also technically computers). I tinker with microcontrollers, electronics and robotics in my spare time.

The first one is mine. Yes, that is a fan that I have pointed at my open case. My computer is approximately 152 years old...and one of my hard drives constantly over heats (unless I have the case open, with the fan pointed at it...and it's been working like this fine for about 3 years now).

The second one belongs to my girlfriend. She insisted that I post a picture of hers...unfortunately, I have not been able to convince her to switch to Ubuntu.

Me? There are only two . . The laptop dual boots XP and Ubuntu (512Ram 1.73Ghz Centrino). The tower is built myself which also dual boots XP and Ubuntu only because if it has the power to play games, I might as well use it (Intel Dual Core 2Ghz, 2GB RAM, Nvidia7600GT, of course dual monitors).

Oh, cool. How much was the whole setup or did you gradually get everything?

It came out to $920 after everything (hardware, keyboard/mouse, case, both monitors(already had one)). It was all put together at once though I did add the fan controller later as well as a new heatsink anda few quieter case fans. I'm thinking about putting the 30DBa 80CFM fan back in. Quiet is overrated.

The fan controller is usually retraced into the case, the light gets annoying early in the morning but it had to post for the camera. ;)

Are you talkin to me? :) I have never and will never buy a name-brand package machine. Have no use for those crappy things. I build all my own machines from carefully chosen parts.

I buy some used parts from friends, as well as new parts.

One of the dumpster-found machines was a broken down package machine that someone threw out (found it under about 3 feet of mud and sticks - someone pointed it out to me or I'd have never known it was there). I put in a new mainboard, hard drive and a DVD burner to modernize it a bit and get it running, but certainly not "stock" parts. The previous owner left his windows decal on the box, so I now have a legal Windows XP Home license. Nice! But that machine runs Mint Linux most of the time.

EDIT: Ah, you weren't talkin to me. Never mind.

I've also got a an Edubuntu server under the desk hooked up to a KVM.

The other pics are of the server room at work from last year. The rack has a few more servers in it now, but looks pretty much the same.

The first pic is all my "peripherals". Most of them are hooked up to my main PC (last pic).

The second is my garage PC (under the bench) running DSL. I got the 19" monitor out of someone's trash which works fine. Go figure. The PC is a Pentium 133 with two DVD ROM drives, 40M of RAM, and a 1.2G hard drive. It currently has no keyboard hooked up. I use it to play music off DVDs that I burn while I'm working in the garage or in the yard.

The 3rd pic is basically my test setup. It's currently a Pentium II, 106M RAM, running DSL. Yes, the monitor stand is made from two old PC covers, and there's a tape deck inside.

The 4th pic is my main PC (which is right in front of my test setup). You can tell it's my main PC by the Ubuntu sticker on it :). I have another unique peripheral (a VCR) hooked up to it.

That one room is a "nightmare" that my wife rarely likes to visit. But I call it heaven :)

no such thing as a mini pug he is just really small. he is pedigree his parents were award winners, he just decided to slow his growing down a bit:P im glad you think he is adorable, people usually think they are the cutest or the ugliest. i think he is the cutest boy ever, love him to bits.
