OK, I was bored, so built an old box installed DOS 6.22 was about to install windows for workgroups when I realised... I only had 4 install disks. After tipping my room upside down I now have all but disk 1.

Would somebody be kind enough to copy disk 1, and email it to me?

Thank you all so much.

EDIT:
Or if you know where its saved on the web it would be a huge help :D

Say hi to "File Manager" for me. I miss it. I loved it so much more than "Windows Explorer". The good ones always die so young :(

Thanks for making me feel old. ;)

I grew up with Commodore computers, namely the Vic-20 and the C-64.

So did I. Does it work? Or have you not tried it yet? I do like the old versions of windows that I have tried. The interface is unlike the repetitive win95 clones that many OS's still use.

Wow, that seems like fun. I haven't messed around with pre-9x Windows for ages.

EDIT:

Why didn't you install Linux on it? I'm sure there are small kernels for old architectures lying around the net somewhere.

OK, the only 3.11 I could find was the spanish one.

I figured I could install it then change it to english.

Apparantly not.

And its a 700mhz P3 with 128MB ram with a 20GB HDD, im installing 3.11 because I want it, not because theres nothing else I could use.

And now my main PCisnt working - ill fix it tomorrow, and my laptop batterys dieing and i dont have a clue where the charger is.

Been a bad day :[

Sorry bud, hope it gets better.

If you do happen to find Windows 3.1 somewhere could you drop a link here. I've wanted to play with it for quite some time now.

You can run Win 3.1 under DOSBox (i don't have 3.11, but I bet it works too :P) Simple to install as well.

Has MIDI support ;) Something tells me it would have trouble on modern hardware when it comes to stuff like that...

As another poster mentioned, File Manager was much better. I liked how simple it was to set file associations... Oh well... :P
:lolflag:

EDIT: Also, if you need 16-bit windows apps, WINE seems to run them pretty well in my experience.

I think I found it: http://vetusware.com/download/Windows%20for%20Workgroups%203.11/?id=130

Let's see if I can get it to boot in qemu :)

EDIT: nvm just noticed it was the same link >.<

EDITv2: no it isn't just the same site. Don't mind me....

Remember Trumpet Winsock? Yeah I don't want to remember it either ;)

There's enough software out there to make Win3.x still useful. You can get on the net with it, but try finding a 16 bit web browser that will support many of today's websites.

Hopefully I will, but I think my NIC is too new
