View Full Version : Favorite RPM distro?

I have decided to take the plunge and give an RPM distro a try (I've played around with a lot of distros but the only RPM based distro I've used for more than 10 mins is PCLinuxOS).
So I thought I'd ask, whats your favorite RPM distro?
I'd be using it for normal home use so I need mp3, DVD codec that sort of thing.
Cheers.

I know this sounds stupid but I've been avoiding PCLinuxOS for a while now entirely because the name sounds stupid.
Friend: "Hey Windows looks funny on your computer".
Me "I'm not using Windows, I'm using PCLinuxOS!"
Friend: "...OK your a nerd" *walks off in disgust*
:p
But seriously, I think they need to rename it.

PCLinuxOS.
It's a lot faster when it comes to installing stuff than other RPM distros I've tried.

I've never used it, but I'd have to say CentOS because it's supposed to be very good at what it does. Couple Redhat with that. And OpenSUSE is a close second.

Fedora is my favorite desktop RPM while Cent is preferred on the server.
/me hates PCLOS for the default theme and their attempt as a Windows replacement.

PCLOS is my favorite as it is eons beyond any I have used for one single reason:
Apt
okay two:
Synaptic
despite its name its a very good dist in my opinion, a semi decent repo and ease of use makes it good for the beginner

Why not run Fedora and install apt to have a good repo with the same package manager? The Fedora repos are much larger than PCLOS, and a million times faster as well...
