Although this is not strictly Ubuntu related, I'm guessing some of you maybe interested as it is Linux related.

We're having a Linux LAN Party in Conway, AR on September 15. 2007 at the Faulkner County Library. We have room for around 20 people. Windows users are welcome as the games run on both Linux and Windows.

For more info or to register, go to the ARLUG website (http://www.arlug.org/lanparty).

Computer Power User (http://www.computerpoweruser.com/) is sponsoring us with free copies of their magazine.

For those unfamiliar with the games we're playing at the lan, here are some videos:

Urban Terror - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgRXdQtv1R8
Sauerbraten (instagib)- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUVGt3pGlHg
World of Padman - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPx-ET38AKw
Tremulous - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQKKrrNB_8I
BZFlag - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8OaO2XrBsI

Also, I will have a beta version of my Linux Distro, Kwadrix: Gamers Edition ready at the LAN Party.
Kwadrix: Gamers Edition is a Live DVD based off of Ubuntu. This Live DVD has the games we are playing at the LAN preinstalled as well as other Open Source, First Person Shooters and a few other games. This DVD is designed to be a "LAN Party on a Disc". KGE is both a Live DVD (you can run it without installing) and Installer like the normal Ubuntu CD.

Hey man i was thinking of doing the same thing so thanks for the information i did not think to include. Does Kwadix run SMOOTHLY off of the DVD because installing a New OS for me would not be a problem but my friends might not like the whole linux thing on their computers?

Cheers

Kwadrix: Gamers Edition development is on hold for now. There is not a link to download older versions the DVD. I modified the post to remove the link to the site to remove future confusion.

For now, I would recommend downloading Linux-Gamers.net's Live DVD http://live.linux-gamers.net/ (http://live.linux-gamers.net)

Cool I just got it sent to me. However, do you think it will run ok from disk or not?

I have just installed Ubuntu 9.1. I am trying to set up a LAN and I can't find ifconfig. I have modified <hosts>. I ping the other computer to no avail.

I found the update-rc.d -f wakeonlanconfig defaults and other stuff, but no ifconfig.

The Internet worked out of the box.

What's up?

Thanks in advance.
