View Full Version : Are you a "music person"?

What does that mean anyway? Does it mean you are musically oriented, you like music, you make music, you are music, or what?

I guess I could be classed as a "music" person as I write and listen to music daily. Everybody is technically a music person as music tends to stimulate human emotion and the majority of people listen to music without really thinking about it.

Generally it means you consider music a large part of your life, most of the time it means you have a wide selection of music/specific taste and listen to music very frequently. But it can also mean all the other stuff you posted.

I'm not a huge music person, I like a lot of different music rock/alternative/house/trance/rap/etc but also have very specific tastes and know what I like.

32,000 songs says it all.

I like to listen to and make music. I would go (even more) insane without it. A day without music is a pointless day.

I think the fact that someone would click on this thread as soon as seeing the title makes them a music person.

Part of being a music person, in my opinion, is knowing how to listen to music, to recognize some patterens, but also appreciate patterens and rythms you haven't heard before too.

Ironically I do the exact opposite. I am very good at math and recognizing patterns, but I really try very hard not to do so with music.
I try to become very much aware of my state of mind and try to have it form solely on the basis of the music I hear/make. This way I feel my state of mind converges on some state of mind that is inherant in this music while at the same time obviously I am still who I am.

This has resulted in a more permanent change of who I am with music like bossa nove or nick drake or debussy. The first made me find a sort of deep acquiesence with who and where I am. The second made me aware of the inherant value of life, when you allow it to become intense.

When I try to recognize patterns I often miss the emotional point. It to me has never contributed.

I have conceived the best music in a very free state of mind, entirely free of anything but the way stuff sounds. Often after parties or when madly in love.

I guess I'm not really a "music person".

I listen to a couple of hours of music a day - usually while on the computer

Maybe, using an ABI, but even if it does, it will be a very low level of hearing - barely enough to follow spoken language.

Actually, the ABI is already in there. I go back to the hospital on the 26th to have it activated and do the first settings. Then, we'll see how it goes...
