A. will we need to regulate them somehow with the government?
B. Will we need to break up the monopolies so we can let the free market decide, and make those who would do so go extinct?
C. Something else?

I kind of fear for the future of the internet as ISP's get more and more conglomerated. There are many good uses to programs such as bit torrent....

how will they be stopped?

A. Yes, unfortunately the government of the United States will never act in the best interest of anybody who does not has a fair share in a corporation with enough pull
B. Capitalism begets monopolies: protectionist models are doomed to fail since you cannot hope to fix something that is fundamentally broken like the free market.
C. Decentralization? Other countries should stop depending on the US for the internet to begin with and as the country moves closer and closer to Imperalistic Fascism it will one day cripple the internet unless its decentralized.

Option C. might sound cold for us people but if US people want a better solution they have to work for it themselves from the inside, the general perception for us people on the outside is complete apathy, to the point of nihilism and outright contempt for everybody outside who usually get the better part of the inhumane consequences of the policies that artificially maintain the country ( although just barely ).
