Is it possible to split DVD files (.VOB Video_TS etc.) from a dual layer DVD (7 GB of files) to two single layer DVDs?

Yes, that is possible (don't ask for the details), but is far easier to compress the dvd to the size of one dvd with a program such as k9copy (http://k9copy.sourceforge.net/).

It is possible, basically it's taking video editing software and spliting it into 2 equal sized chunks and saving them as seperate files.

Personally I would just get a DVD-R DL drive and be done with it.

FYI: Do NOT tell us why you want to do this. You may be warned by the Admins about "copyright infringment" and could get yourself into trouble (though I doubt you would).:lolflag:

Nice if you have lots of money. Where I live, I pay 5b for a DVD 4.7GB, and around 125b for double layer - that means to backup 4 DVD's would need 4 DL at 500b, or 8 SL at 40b. My salary is around 250b per hour. I think that's the size of it - DL disks are hideously overpriced compared to 4.7G disks.

You could just rip it as an .avi with dvd::rip (http://exit1.org/dvdrip/) which will result in a much smaller file size.

dvd::rip is in the repositories:

sudo apt-get install dvdrip
