As a Gnome user I'm pretty excited about the development of KDE 4. Is good for users when big projects have a strong competition.

Ok, we know the gnome philosophy, almost any interested person knows what the gnome project says about Threepointzero (http://live.gnome.org/ThreePointZero).
KDE is doing a very strong effort in 4.0, and everybody is talking about.
Once released, I will give it a try for sure.
Will gnome follow the same guideline ,2.20, 2.22, 2, 24, 2.26, 2.28? I'm not seeing any important new feature since 2.0, just bugfixes and some minor new thing. But is this maybe what we really want? Gnome does its job pretty well, is stable, and every version has more bugfixes than the previous one...

So guys, I'm really confuse.. I love gnome, I can personalize it as much as I want, having vertical bars, putting my icons where I want, transparencies... And to be honest, this is the only thing that keeps me out of KDE. The bottom bar in KDE is huge!. (This is my desk.) http://kosimo.googlepages.com/18.05.07.jpg
Can I do something similar in KDE?

I guess not.

But, recovering the topic title, will gnome start planning 3.0 in order to compete with KDE? Is Gnome 2.x perfectly suitable for the next years?

Lol, of course you can. Should take about, uhm, 2 minutes...

I didn't know it.
So, that means I can have vertical bars in KDE. (without any third party software)
Sorry for my ignorace, but I've never use KDE before apart from live Kubuntu.

Sure you can, and you can of course define how big or small you want it to be.

Enough reasons to go to synaptic and install it to try :)

I'll tel you something in 20 minutes ;)

Take a look at the Roadmap for Gnome... http://live.gnome.org/RoadMap

And with regards to Gnome 3.0... http://live.gnome.org/ThreePointZero

There are no plans for a GNOME 3.0 release at this time.

Maybe a bit off topic: I find both, KDE and GNOME pretty cool, but for some reason I like gnome better... and the app I like most about KDE is yakuake; it's really awesome (too bad tilda doesn't do it's job very well)...
