Hi, my name is Tom Griffiths, I am researching Ubuntu as part of a broader research project examining new volunteer organisations and I am asking for people to answer a short 19 question (most multiple choice, so about 10 mins) anonymous survey on their involvement with Ubuntu and the Ubuntu community. I am looking for anyone in the community, admins and users alike to respond.

A "plain language statement" explaining the project and who's involved in it and what I am going to do with the data is here:

the gplv3 question is flawed


I assumed it meant 'Should Ubuntu's control group push upstreams to adopt gpl3?'

Done. I;ve mentioned the diference between Free Software and Open Source. I believe you guys should do the same. They need to be educated.

Ubuntu27: The open source/free software question just seeks to see how the users perceive the community rather than a vote on whether Stallmans freedoms are represented by how the software is licenced. It could be phrased better.

Tehkain: You are right that there is a packaging/upstream issue in that question. Most people who have responded have said they don't know what the GPL3 is anyway. Thus the only data that can perhaps be extracted from the question is that the GPL3 is not well known.
