OK, after much work the initial phase of Mapping Distros by their country of origin is ready for your interactive enjoyment.

Please look at the interactive map that I have posted on Distropedia.

If there are any distros I have missed or if there are any corrections needed please post them here:

We need a distro originating from Antarctica. You'd think with all those penguins they'd have been inspired already.

Funny you mentioned that I thought about putting a joke distro there....but I have no idea what to call it?

Distros mapped by country of origin

Wow, you added a LOT since I last looked. Europe and America are completely covered unless you zoom in a fair bit.

It holds to the long standing naming tradition of unix-like OSes.

That map is beginning to look like something from an online strategy game. "World Domination IV - Attack of the Gnu" - One more OS and New Zealand sinks.

You know, I was installing Linux Mint today and I noticed that a few spots on Antarctica were available for time syncing, so maybe some of the research stations down there use Linux? The continent does have a few thousand scientists that work there year round...

I never knew Basingstoke of all places was home to a Linux distro. You learn something new every day :)

I can name a great number of people who can't name the differences between the United Kingdom, Great Britain, the British Isles and England. That would probably make their brains a'splode.

That is a good question, I wonder what OS they use?...

Good points...That is why I have the Isle of Man listed as the Isle of Man and not the UK.

Q: Is the Isle of Man Part of the United Kingdom?
A: No, the Isle of Man is an ancient Kingdom and has never been part of the United Kingdom.http://www.gov.im/infocentre/faqs/import.gov?menuid=10167&page=cso/constitutionalfaqs.xml

I seen the Channel Islands being listed as a country once in here. ;)
