You would think buying a pair of crimpers is easy...

Won't be using them everyday, just need something to make up patch and crossover cables occasionally for personal needs and the occasional favor for a friend or 12.

Asking for opinions / suggestions on which crimpers would be suitable (eg. not break after a few crimps).

From what I've seen so far, look like the ratcheting type, would be better than a lever type. Something that will give equal pressure across the plug. Correct or not?

TIA ~

Well, I have used quite a few crimpers and even the cheapest ones seem to be adequate. I got mine at Radio Shack, which is about the worst of the lot and it has made hundreds of good crimps.

Any steel ones should last you for a very long time. It is not hard work for steel.

Thanks HermanAB & handy.

I've picked a few from ebay, if anyone wants to kill some very valuable time (of theirs) to offer their opinions.

I'll hit the local radio shack tomorrow and see what they have in store. Their website only shows items to be ordered online. HomeDepot shows to have some in stock, but their of the high-side of 50 bucks

The Radio Shack I work at has 1 in stock. You can also get them from Comp-USA and the like.

My parents bought me mine for Christmas one year and it was a set with lever crimper and a separate adjustable striper. I love both and they work great.

Thanks for that Tuboraaa2001. Would you happen to recall what the one you guys have in stock sells for? Is it a lever style?

It is $35.99 and is lever style. I can tell you that it is the same kind as mine and it applies pressure evenly.
