I'm interested in building a laptop. Basically this is what I want:
1440x900 15.4" or better
Largest possible 7200RPM SATA drive (http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16822146226)
2GB 667 RAM (http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16820178147)
Intel Core 2 Duo (http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16819111318) processor or AMD equavalent (if they have gotten better with Linux support) @ 800FSB preferrably also with 4MB L2 Cache

I think the Intel X3100 graphics would be fine. I don't game much. The old Dell Dimension 2350 with i810* graphics can handle WoW and The Sims good enough so, I don't really need Nvidia/proprietary unless, the open source drivers are good enough to play 3D games now.

I want this to be powerful enough to replace my desktop and since it won't be as upgradable as one, it needs to be pretty decent. My main problem is finding the barebone laptop that I like. A built-in webcam and mic would be pretty nice.
Also, what about wireless? What do you suggest?
I don't care much about bluetooth since I don't have any bluetooth devices.
What about be a good distro? I'm thinking Ubuntu simply because I'm most familiure with it and it's pretty easy and seems compatable with many things.

*I'm pretty sure that's what it has... it's been a while...

Edit:
I forgot to mention that I also would need a DVD-RW

You could always buy it already built. If you want to really replace a desktop, take a look at our MegaLap (http://www.zareason.com/shop/product.php?productid=16151):

17" 1680x1050 LCD
Core 2 Duo
up to 4 GB ram
up to 160 GB 7200 RPM hard drive
Nvidia 7600 w/512 MB dedicated video ram
4 speakers and a subwoofer
