After months of hard work, the PC-BSD team is pleased to make available the 1.4 BETA release. This version includes many exciting new features and software, such as:

* 3D desktop support via Beryl
* KDE 3.5.7

...and still without /dev/sequencer support ;-)

But that's not the fault of the dbsd team, who have done a great job.

I've been using it for about a week now and I am really impressed. It's still beta, so a few things break - but all in all a really strong release.

It's wireless gui is the strongest in *BSD, it even uses WPA Supplicant on the backend, so you can configure your WPA encrypted wireless within the gui.

I keep it synced with the ports though, and that tends to break the pbi software manager... So I hope that'll be fixed before the official release.

Yup, PC-BSD is shaping up to be an excellent linux distro, I mean BSD release. :-D

However, compiling annoys the crap out of me and updating with binaries isn't working well (http://forums.pcbsd.org/viewtopic.php?t=9258).
