Dell wants to see better software drivers for Linux so that the firm can ship more notebooks and desktops running the operating system, according to one of its software engineers.

It is good news, maybe ATi will be respected by the Linux community when they get their act together...

I am surprised ATI is still lacking in the support for Linux. Its not as if Linux just came in yesterday. I still dread installing Linux on my T42 because it has a ATI card in it. So for now, its just lying there.

Maybe, I should just do it ! :)

Great maybe they will make somebody spit out drivers for my ENE card reader on my laptop so I can be 100%

If we can get ATI and at least most of the wireless companies on board then I'll declare Mission Accomplished. Everything else I can do without if need be.

I realy hope this turns out to what we expect: ATI drivers ready for the work, preferably open-sourced. :)

Haha, if they allowed open source drivers, that'd be accutely pretty good but they don't know that :D

Excellent news!

HP will eventually start supplying Linux based machines too, then most of our driver problem's will quickly disappear, at least for the current equipment.

How these IT monsters choose to work with open source will be interesting to see.
