Is it possible to use USB stick(s) / SDcards as ram? I would of thought that they have a fast enough transfer rate, Also there is somethink similar to this in vista called "cash". :P

Yes, but considering that most flash memory only allows a very few number of writes (relative to hard disks), the device would be useless after some heavy swapping.

Also, I think hard disk I/O is faster, so you're better off having your swap on the hard disk.

So no, it's not a very "cool idea" at all.

Better to run your OS from your USB Stick, the best OS for this is Wolvix. (http://wolvix.org/)

I considered having my swap on a sd-card, but didnīt do it, because i could find no previous attempts to do so in the forum (so i guess there is a reason not to).

I donīt think the read/write wear on flash-ram is a problem anylonger. Just look at OLPC, and other solid-drive computers. They at least must have a flash-ram swap partition.

1.Yes it's possible, just create a swappartition on it.
2.No it isn't faster than a swap partition on a harddrive.
3.Those cards and sticks have a limited lifetime.
That what Vista does is a complete waste of money.

Slax based distros don't work well on my computer. I wish it did. The modules are so useful. Of course, all distros made with linux live scripts have modules. Loonix does. But it won't install to my USB drive.
For now I use Slax (it's that good. Even without internet), Finnix, GRML Small, and Knopperdisk.
